Intern Structural Engineer – Automated 3D Modelling & Data Extraction

About the role

This 4‑to‑6‑month internship in Monaco focuses on developing an integrated, automated workflow for creating and exploiting 3D models of floating offshore wind structures. The intern will work on a parametric modelling methodology using the 3DExperience platform and link structural models with hydrodynamic analyses.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement an automated approach for generating 3D models of floating offshore wind structures.
• Develop a robust, parametric modelling methodology based on lessons learned from existing models.
• Create links between structural 3D models and hydrodynamic models.
• Use the 3D model as a central source for automated engineering reporting and data extraction.
• Build an automated Bill of Quantities (BoQ) with consistent coding and automatic updates after design changes.
• Develop solutions for corrosion protection, including automatic extraction of painted surfaces, cathodic protection areas, and tank volumes.
• Implement methods for automated assessment of welding lengths and volumes based on geometry and modelling rules.
• Support generation of welding maps for fabrication and cost assessment.
• Investigate model‑checking and visualization tools such as identification by plate thickness or material grade.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong interest in 3D modelling, automation, programming, offshore wind structures and digital engineering.
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
• Fluent English.

Required skills

• Experience with 3DExperience platform.
• Knowledge of parametric modelling techniques.
• Understanding of hydrodynamic modelling concepts.
• Ability to develop automated Bill of Quantities and data extraction scripts.
• Familiarity with corrosion protection modelling and welding assessment.
