Distributed Storage Engineer – Apache Ozone Internals (Remote)

About the role

BairesDev is looking for a senior Distributed Storage Engineer to work on the core of Apache Ozone. You will focus on the storage engine itself, handling replication, consistency, metadata management, and coordination across Object Manager, Storage Container Manager and DataNodes at petabyte scale.

Key responsibilities

• Write and contribute production‑grade code to the Apache Ozone project.
• Debug, optimise and scale Ozone internals (replication, consistency, metadata, OM/SCM/DataNode coordination).
• Troubleshoot complex distributed issues such as replication failures, networking, disk I/O and concurrency.
• Improve performance and scalability of distributed storage operations.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional engineering teams and open‑source committers.
• Mentor senior engineers through code reviews and design critiques.

Required profile

• 6+ years of software development experience.
• Strong Java programming skills.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency and parallel programming.
• Hands‑on experience with at least one distributed storage system (e.g., Apache Ozone, HDFS, Ceph, MinIO).
• Knowledge of replication, consistency, fault tolerance and metadata management concepts.
• Familiarity with JVM performance characteristics (GC, memory, threading).
• Advanced level of English.
