Materials Scientist – AI Content Reviewer (Remote Contractor)

About the role

This is an hourly, remote contractor position where you will act as a Materials Science Subject Matter Expert. You will review AI‑generated materials science content, create high‑quality reference answers, and provide precise written feedback to improve the scientific accuracy of AI models.

Key responsibilities

• Develop AI training content by writing prompts and gold‑standard answers across metals, ceramics, polymers, composites, phase diagrams, heat treatment, mechanical testing, corrosion, nanomaterials, and characterization.
• Evaluate and rank AI outputs, focusing on correctness, engineering logic, terminology, structure‑property reasoning, clarity, and relevance to the original prompt.
• Detect misleading claims, hallucinated properties, unsafe design assumptions, and incorrect diagrams, ensuring model integrity.
• Fact‑check scientific statements and rewrite content to demonstrate best practices in materials science explanation.
• Provide detailed feedback on units, terminology, test methods, process conditions, and design trade‑offs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Polymer Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum C1 proficiency in English for detailed written feedback.
• At least 3 years of experience in materials science research, engineering, laboratory work, manufacturing, teaching, technical writing, or academic review.
• Deep understanding of structure‑property relationships, crystal structures, phase diagrams, mechanical behavior, heat treatment, polymers, ceramics, metals, composites, corrosion, and characterization techniques.
• Ability to identify hallucinated material properties, flawed processing claims, unsafe engineering suggestions, and unsupported performance claims.
