Global Instrument Lead Engineer

About the role

The Global Instrument Lead Engineer is responsible for the reliability, availability and efficiency of instrument systems and equipment across SBM Offshore’s operations. The role covers operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and continuous improvement of field and offshore instrumentation, analyzers, fire‑gas detection, automated valves and metering systems.

Key responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement in design and operation of instrument systems for existing fleet and new builds.
• Define governance processes, tools and strategies to enhance performance and assurance.
• Develop and maintain maintenance programmes, schedules and failure‑analysis procedures.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Lead obsolescence management, equipment upgrades and new technology qualifications.
• Provide technical support to operations, adjust instrument settings, and participate in digital interface development.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience maintaining and managing instrument systems in the oil & gas industry.
• Strong knowledge of offshore industry standards and regulations.

Required skills

• Instrument systems and equipment expertise.
• Proficiency with HART‑enabled instrumentation software.
• Failure analysis and root‑cause investigation techniques.
• Predictive maintenance technologies and practices.
• Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise asset management systems.
• Experience using Smartplant Instrumentation for instrument indexing.
