Principal Software Engineer (Java) – Remote

About the role

BairesDev® is seeking a Principal Software Engineer with deep Java expertise to lead the design and evolution of a large‑scale distributed storage platform. This remote position offers the chance to influence architecture, set technical standards, and mentor senior engineers across a global team.

Key responsibilities

• Define architectural direction for Java‑based distributed storage systems.
• Establish and enforce standards for replication, consistency, and high‑availability at enterprise scale.
• Lead complex distributed systems initiatives from design through delivery.
• Serve as the authority on consensus protocols (RAFT, Paxos, Apache Ratis) in production.
• Influence engineering strategy and roadmap as a senior technical voice.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers to raise distributed systems expertise.

Required profile

• 10+ years of IT experience.
• 5+ years using Java as the primary language in distributed or storage engineering.
• Proven expertise in distributed storage architecture and large‑scale replication design.
• Production‑proven experience with consensus protocols such as RAFT, Paxos, or Apache Ratis.
• Strong background in high‑availability and fault‑tolerant system design.
• Demonstrated technical leadership at a Principal or equivalent level.
• Advanced proficiency in English.
