Global Instrument Lead Engineer

About the role

As Global Instrument Lead Engineer you will ensure the reliability, availability and efficiency of instrument systems and equipment across SBM Offshore’s operations, covering both existing fleet and new builds.

Key responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement in design, operation and maintenance of instrument systems, including analyzers, flow measurement, level, fire and gas detection.
• Define governance processes, tools and assurance strategies to boost performance.
• Develop and maintain maintenance programmes, schedules and obsolescence‑management plans.
• Conduct failure analysis, root‑cause investigations and provide rapid technical support to operations.
• Support the definition and qualification of new equipment, technologies and digital interfaces such as PDM and Instrument Intelligent Agents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechanical or Electronics Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years of experience maintaining and managing instrument systems in the oil & gas industry.
• Strong knowledge of offshore instrument standards, health‑safety‑environment regulations and predictive‑maintenance practices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with HART‑enabled instrument software.
• Experience in failure analysis and root‑cause investigation techniques.
• Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise asset‑management systems.
• Knowledge of Smartplant Instrumentation for managing instrument indexes.
• Understanding of obsolescence issues and equipment upgrade processes.
