About the role
This internship focuses on implementing quadratic roll damping in second‑order motion calculations for the MPF hull, evaluating its impact on design motions, accelerations, and mooring analyses.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a literature review on current state‑of‑the‑art formulations, linearisation methods, and model‑test data.
- Become proficient with Hydrostar and related motion‑analysis tools.
- Define and implement a methodology for consistent modelling of quadratic roll damping in first‑ and second‑order calculations.
- Validate numerical predictions against basin‑test results and ensure numerical stability.
- Apply the developed method to a past project to assess its impact on motion calibration and mooring analyses.
Required profile
- Engineering student in 2nd or 3rd year of study.
- Strong theoretical background in hydrodynamics and interest in offshore or renewable applications.
- Ability to perform numerical analyses and interpret results.
Required skills
- Experience with Hydrostar software.
- Familiarity with Orcaflex.
- Programming in Python for data handling and clustering.
